Two Different Lives,2024
Mixed Media
This series of artworks explores my growing understanding of both my physical and psychological genders during my early years. Initailly, I accepted my psychological gender without much thought. However, outside influences later caused me to feel discomfort with it. Over time, I found harmony between my physical and psychological identities. This journey made me think deeply about how gender is shaped and how we build our sense of self.
The series includes five pieces, each focusing on a different part of gender and identity. Left Hand looks at gender stereotypes, while TV Show shows how media affects our views on gender from childhood to adulthood. Cultivation reflects the ways we are shaped, both intentionally and unintentionally, as we grow. Reflection explores the connection between who we are and our inner world. Finally, Bond represents the ties and deep connections we form through the process of growing up.
These works start as photographs and are then enhanced with embroidery, creating a unique way to tell the story visually.
